Major Redevelopments in Marina
Major redevelopments are taking place at the former Fort Ord in the city of Marina, California. Marina was incorporated in 1975 and is the newest and fastest growing city in the Monterey Peninsula. The projects are extensive and include several recreational facilities, residential buildings, cultural centres, hotels and commercial buildings.
The University Village is one of the ongoing developments and is a mixed-use village centre with retail units, office spaces, parks, hotels and residential areas. This area will house over 500 hotel rooms as well as 1,237 new residential units. The Marina Heights project will provide five new neighbourhood areas with an abundance of parks and open space. This project is built over 248 acres and will provide 1050 housing units. Marina Station will also provide housing units, as well as a business park, commercial spaces and industrial space. East Garrison Village boasts affordable homes in a cultural arts district; in an area with walk able streets and a town centre.
Marina is going through major redevelopments spread over 1400 acres of land. The project will bring over 12,400 jobs to the area, and attract buyers from all over the country. 4500 housing units are being built, as well as 4.3 million square feet of commercial space.
The redevelopment project is estimated to bring over 11,000 new residents upon completion.
