Sustainable Towers In Kuala Lumpur
Malaysian architects Hijjas Kasturi Associates and Italian Studio Nicoletti Associati have joined together to design a unique sustainable residential development that consists of eight towers. The waterfront development is “culturally modern, Islamic and tropical in nature”, as described by Manfredi Nicoletti.
The development is in a prime central location found in Putrajaya, a stretch of land between the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur and the International Airport. The development was inspired by the city’s artificial lake, and the towers resemble a fleet of ships. The towers are all different, with a range of heights and number of residential units. Each tower will consist of between 15 and 18 storeys and include 150 to 350 units. The roof gardens will feature swimming pools and sundecks for residents to enjoy the hot Malaysian sun. There will be several cafes, bars and lounging areas available for people to relax.
The Putrajaya Development will use alternative energy and are expected to produce 50% less carbon dioxide emissions than similar projects in the area. The towers are built with sustainability in mind, featuring natural ventilation. All electrical appliances in the towers will be water efficient and power saving. The water system will use recycled rain water to further promote sustainability. The towers are set to be completed in 2010, and are attracting a lot of interest from potential buyers.
